PFF: Chiefs’ Dee Ford led all EDGE rushers in pressures for 2018

Ford had 77 pressures in 2018, better than any other EDGE rusher in the league.

Each week, Pro Football Focus shares some notes from the Kansas City Chiefs’ previous game as part of something it calls PFF Insights. Last week, the Chiefs clinched a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs as its number one seed.

I think by the end of the season, given his 13.0 sacks, everyone realized Chiefs outside linebacker Dee Ford had a good season. But digging deeper into the numbers, he was no doubt one of the league’s best EDGE rushers.

PFF: Ford finished his season adding two more total pressures to his season total, including one sack and one quarterback hurry against the Raiders. As an edge rusher, Ford finishes with 77 total pressures, including 13 sacks, 17 quarterback hits and 45 quarterback hurries. The 77 total pressures are the most in the NFL among all edge rushers.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was the Chiefs’ highest-graded offensive player against the Raiders.

PFF: Hill finished off his outstanding season with five receptions on seven targets for 101 yards and a touchdown, and four of his five receptions went for either a first down or touchdown. Hill finishes the season as the fifth-highest graded qualifying receiver in football. His 754 yards on deep passes (20-plus yards) were the most in the NFL.

To be clear, that’s an outstanding season as a wide receiver, not a return specialist.

Other Chiefs notes from PFF for Week 17

  • Patrick Mahomes went 14 of 24 for 281 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Mahomes finished the season with a 93.2 overall grade, just behind Drew Brees (94.7). His 1,514 yards and 15 touchdowns on deep passes (20-plus yards in air) were the most in the NFL.
  • Reggie Ragland’s last game was his best, as his 94.4 PFF Overall Grade was the highest among qualifying linebackers in all of the NFL in Week 17. Ragland finished with four tackles, while intercepting the only pass he was in primary coverage (36 defensive snaps).
