The Seahawks used a second round pick on a wide receiver, and Twitter exploded

It looked like the Seattle Seahawks were going to let the first two rounds of the draft come to an end without having added any offensive weapons for Russell Wilson after having made him the highest paid player in the league. Add in the fact that Doug Baldwin has had three separate surgeries this offseason, and how the receiving corps for the Hawks will look in 2019 is certainly a question mark.

However, the Hawks traded back up into the second round by sending a third and a fourth to the New England Patriots in order to be able to select wide receiver D.K. Metcalf out of Ole Miss. Metcalf is the definition of the big bodied receiver that Pete Carroll has been searching for since arriving in Seattle. At 6033 and 228, he weighs more than many of the Seahawks running backs on the roster and brings absolutely insane athleticism skills in certain areas. He ran a 4.33 electronic timed 40 yard dash at the combine, and then followed that up with 27 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Add to that a 40.5” vertical and a 134” broad jump and the athleticism is off the charts.

Just to put Metcalf’s strenght in perspective, the 27 reps on the bench press that he performed at the combine is tied with Justin Britt and Mike Iupati, who did the most reps of any of the projected starting offensive linemen at the combine (Germain Ifedi and Duane Brown both did 24 reps and D.J. Fluker did 21).

In any case, many fans loved the pick because of the simple fact that Russ throws a fantastic deep ball and Metcalf is a fantastic deep threat. In short, Metcalf is now a third deep threat for Wilson to go with David Moore and Tyler Lockett. However, before I ramble on too much, let’s get to the reactions of the pick from Twitter.
