The New England Patriots had to watch considerable on-field talent leave over the course of the offseason, but their off-the-field game remains championship-caliber in the wake of a national health emergency. After already assisting the Massachusetts state government in delivering 1.2 million protective masks from China, the organization has now helped distribute meals to families directly impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a coordinated effort with the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, the Patriots sent out their two-millionth food package last Friday. Those packages would normally be assembled on Cape Cod, but the MMFS facility responsible for doing so had to be turned into a field hospital due to Covid-19. Once again, however, Robert Kraft and the organizations owned by him have stepped in to provide support in a time of need.

The Patriots’ Gillette Stadium complex, which was already used as a Coronavirus testing site and for blood drives, saw the addition of a safe space to put together the packages intended for veterans and military families. The packages, which have been delivered across New England, contain 50 pounds of food as well as recipes that can be turned into three meals per day and should help feed a family of two over a 14-day period.

“There are a lot of people in need of some help right now,” Kraft said, according to ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss. “I am so glad that we could offer our support and assistance. It is heartwarming to see how many people have volunteered to assist in the packaging and distributing of two million meals. It has been a tremendous team effort that is positively impacting the lives of others throughout New England.”

On Saturday alone, per WCVB’s Josh Brogadir, 84,000 meals were delivered to the city of Chelsea. Carrying them was a truck with a familiar word written on its side: Patriots.
