Football is BACK.
— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) July 25, 2020
From @NFLTotalAccess: Thanks in part to the relationship built while negotiating a CBA earlier this offseason, the NFL and NFLPA found common ground on a deal without it ever getting ugly. Kudos to both sides making it work in a tough situation. pic.twitter.com/nbUbI5ct32
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 24, 2020
NFL teams have to get down to 80 players on or before Aug. 16, and they can have no more than 80 players in their facility at a given time. Cutdown to 53 on Sept. 5.
— Sam Farmer (@LATimesfarmer) July 24, 2020
Practice squad increased from 12 to 16, and teams have ability to protect 4 of those players per week.
Some clarity on this: Fully guaranteed 2020 salaries will also be on a pay-as-you-go basis, but if games are lost, any guarantees not paid out would convert to cover future, non-guaranteed salary. If that money is never earned in salary, it’d be paid as benefit in 2024 or beyond. https://t.co/71ene6ZnAy
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) July 24, 2020
To use that example, Ryan has a $1.05M guaranteed P5 in 2020. If half this season is lost, there would be roughly $500K guaranteed salary not paid. So next year, $6M of his P5 would be guaranteed instead of $5.5M. If he gets cut and never signs again, he gets that $500K later.

Correct. It’s really a mechanism to ensure if a player is guaranteed $X, he eventually collects no less than $X.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) July 25, 2020
Per sources, Under the new deal players who live with an at risk family member will have to choose between opting out of the season or deciding to play while living with the at risk family member or play while living away from that family member for the next 6 months possibly.
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) July 24, 2020
Opt out payment is not “free money”. It is an advance. If you opt out and do not make the team the next year player will owe team $150k.
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) July 24, 2020
According to @TonyPauline, performance based pay will be one of the benefits players will lose this season. Many of the players are very unhappy about this.
— Pro Football Network (@PFN365) July 24, 2020
Those are results from the nine NFL teams that have gotten back results from their initial round of screening.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) July 24, 2020
The NFL knew there would be positive tests. Their plan is to isolate those cases and prevent spread through robust testing, contact tracing and education.
Another issue player leadership pushed for that the NFL agreed to, helping a deal get done today:
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) July 24, 2020
Any club personnel -- not just players -- will be subject to equal discipline if they engage in risky behavior that could expose themselves and others to COVID-19, per source.
NFLPA rep to me: "Our regulations won’t suffice totally for CoVID. We're still stabbing in the dark but I think we did our best with the knowledge we have. It'll either be totally fine or total chaos. Nobody was willing to be quarantined from their families for an entire season."
— IG: JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) July 24, 2020
Remember: collective bargaining agreements are always a Big Win or Huge Loss for each side. No in between. No complex web of interests and goals. That's totes how things work, so be sure to frame your opinion that way!

— Around The NFL (@AroundTheNFL) July 25, 2020
One add to that and it’s my bad but Robin West was one of his doctors and is with Washington. But there’s still a bit go for here. Good step.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 25, 2020
I should say: that he’d be in position to maybe do some work in individual drills etc. full team work will be much harder to get. So don’t start discussing qb battles.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 25, 2020
On the Alex Smith report. He is not cleared to practice until he passes a physical conducted by the team doctors, per a twam spokesman. That exam is expected to happen on the 27th. So, Smith has apparently made amazing strides, but another big step looms.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) July 25, 2020
Tried to compose the perfectly worded tweet to show respect for what Alex Smith has physically and mentally overcome. Settled simply for just ...wow.
— Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN) July 25, 2020
This is true. Helped him last year. Will be good for any young QB to be around a guy like Smith. But if DH does well this year it stems from his offseason work first and foremost. https://t.co/V2gKriR08k

Difference for some of them compared to a 2nd tag for Dak is that Dak would lock in at a price if no extension. Others could be restructured though Ben is in final year and not sure the Packers would want to push out with Rodgers.
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) July 24, 2020
Smart story here. And I’m not sure a spring season makes sense anyway, even beyond the draft part of it. If you play it from, say, March-May, you might be asking kids to play 25 or 30 games in the space of 10 months.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) July 24, 2020
I don’t know that anyone has answered how that would work. https://t.co/k7Dfhqe6AY
While there isn't historical data on 3-and-outs, we do have first down data back to 1950. And teams gain more first downs now than they used to, which means longer drives and therefore fewer drives, too. pic.twitter.com/S1fGPicRye

But the players know the owners have 4 growing/new revenue streams:
• TV deals
• 17th game
• Expanded playoffs
• Gambling money
