Do you approve of the job Bob Quinn is doing?
When we last checked in on Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn, he had just come off his third draft. While there was a small minority questioning some of Quinn’s choices, Lions fans overwhelmingly approved of his picks. Fan confidence in Quinn had reached an 89 percent approval rating—the highest he’s had since he fired Jim Caldwell and hired Matt Patricia.
Here’s a look at the history of Bob Quinn’s approval rating.

February 2018: 92 percent approval
November 2017: 78 percent approval
October 2017: 82 percent approval
August 2017: 95 percent approval

A lot has changed since May. Detroit sits at 0-2, and not only are fans questioning his hiring of his friend Matt Patricia, but Quinn’s personnel decisions are rightfully facing some scrutiny.
His first draft class produced two starters in Taylor Decker and Graham Glasgow, but just about everyone else has been a disappointment. A’Shawn Robinson was a healthy scratch in Week 1, Miles Killebrew still hasn’t carved out a role in three years, and all of his Day 3 picks are either off the team or stuck in backup roles they’ll likely never escape from.
His 2017 class looks even worse. First-round pick Jarrad Davis is going through some serious struggles. Teez Tabor and Jalen Reeves-Maybin haven’t jumped into starting roles, as expected. While he admittedly hit on Kenny Golladay in the third and Jamal Agnew in the fifth, potentially missing on early rounders could prove costly. However, it’s still too early to make final judgements on these second-year players.
Quinn’s free agency moves have been a mixed bag this year. Devon Kennard looks like a savvy move thus far, but the additions of Sylvester Williams and Ricky Jean Francois have quite possibly left the Lions defensive line even worse than last year. On offense, Kenny Wiggins and LeGarrette Blount have added valuable depth, but Detroit’s tight end situation has been cratered.
Over the past week or two, I’ve seen a lot more Lions fans putting Quinn under the microscope. Now in his third year on the job, it doesn’t appear he’s made the Lions roster drastically better than it was before he arrived. It’s worth noting that the team is now going through some drastic schematic changes and some of the players he drafted for last year’s coaching staff may not be great fits in the Patricia era, but talent is talent, and fans are right to question whether Quinn has done a good enough job thus far.
