A tie didn’t feel like a loss in the power rankings this week.
The tie that resulted from Sunday’s matchup of the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings certainly left many with a bad taste in their mouths, especially over the controversial roughing penalty that negated a game-sealing interception. That call could ultimately determine which team wins the NFC North and, perhaps, whether Green Bay earns a playoff berth.
Still, the outcome didn’t hurt the Packers in the power rankings. SB Nation dropped them only one spot to No. 5. If anything, the draw had a greater effect on the Vikings, who fell from the top position to No. 4. Ordering Minnesota and Green Bay back to back seems reasonable after the two teams failed to determine a winner on Sunday, making the Nov. 25 rematch an even bigger matchup than before.
Elsewhere on the internet, Green Bay either lost no ground or ascended the power rankings. ESPN kept the Packers at No. 7 while NFL.com moved them up to No. 5. USA Today made the biggest change, pushing Green Bay up all the way from seventh to fourth and ahead of the Vikings.
The Packers’ next opponent, Washington, finished outside the top 20 in all cited power rankings.
