On Wednesday morning, the Chargers made a pair of practice squad transactions as the team brought back cornerback Jeff Richards while also adding linebacker Tre’Von Johnson.
In a corresponding move, the team waived cornerback Channing Stribling and offensive tackle Jamar McGloster.
Richards is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound cornerback out of Division II Emporia State. After being signed from the Carolina Panthers last September, Richards spent all of last season on the Bolts’ practice squad. In four preseason games with the Chargers, Richards collected 11 total tackles and a pass defensed.
Johnson comes to the Chargers by way of Weber State University, an FCS school in Ogden, Utah. The 6-foot-2, 232-pound linebacker was a four-year player for the Wildcats while being named an All-Big Sky selection and a captain for his junior and senior seasons. He amassed 258 total tackles over 46 career games before playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl all-star game prior to the 2017 NFL Draft.
He entered the league as a UDFA with the Arizona Cardinals and most recently spent time with the Seattle Seahawks on their practice squad. He spent the 2018 preseason with the Dallas Cowboys where he collected nine total tackles and one pass defensed.
