Bears-Vikings injury report: All systems go for Sunday night

The Bears have as clean of a bill of health as you’ll see in mid-November. They’re raring to go for a primetime battle for first place.

The Bears, very evidently, could not have picked a better time to be any hotter or healthier than they are right now. On the heels of a three-game winning streak heading into a whopper of a matchup on Sunday Night Football against the Vikings, the Bears should almost have every relevant player available for the heavyweight fight. Friday’s final injury report reflected as much.

Of every active Bear, Dion Sims was the only player to miss practice on Friday as he continues to suffer effects from a concussion. Head coach Matt Nagy maintained that the tight end could potentially be placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his 2018 season. The veteran Sims has had significant issues with concussions in the past with the Dolphins.

Meanwhile, Bilal Nichols was limited with a knee injury suffered a few weeks back, and Javon Wims, who hasn’t played much this year, practiced in full after his own knee injury.

The big story on a day of clean health for the Bears, aside from the fact that they’re so healthy, is Adam Shaheen. Shaheen, who has practiced for the last two weeks, has yet to be activated to Chicago’s 53-man game day roster. The 24-year-old had been recovering from a high ankle sprain and sprained foot.

When asked if Shaheen could make his return on Sunday night against the Vikings, Nagy only quipped, “I hope so, but I don’t know.” This is a situation where the Bears are clearly making sure Shaheen is as close to 100 percent before throwing him into the fire according to necessary precaution. A smart move with the long term of both this season and years to come in mind.

It is worth mentioning that for all of Nagy’s vagueness, the Bears do have until a 3 p.m. Saturday deadline to promote Shaheen to the active roster. Chances are, the big tight end may make his long-awaited return in primetime soon enough.
