The Arizona Cardinals star running back has numbers that look great again all of a sudden.
It took seven games and an offensive coordinator change, but we are getting to see David Johnson at work again.
In his first seven games of the season, Johnson’s pace was bad:
765 yards rushing 11 rushing touchdowns 46 catches for 379 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Now, his pace with Leftwich is:
1006 yards rushing 10 touchdowns 51 catches for 494 yards 3 touchdowns.
Over 1500 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns after the start to the season Johnson had? Even more over, these are numbers extrapolated from his season totals, not just what he has done under Leftwich.
Under Leftwich, Johnson’s numbers are... great:
1,568 yards rushing and 762 yards receving.
That’s what we expected, fair or not, from Johnson this season. To see it being produced now is an exciting change in what has been an awful season.
The use and success of Johnson is definitely a feather in the cap of Byron Leftwich.
Now, the question is can he sustain it and can that success filter out to the rest of the team or is it too much to ask for the talent involved?
