Von Miller sparked the Denver Broncos to a win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Now he’s received an award for it.
Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
Miller made the play of the game that spurred the Broncos comeback win over the Chargers last week. With the Chargers ready to put the game away, Miller jumped the screen play and took the Philip Rivers pass 41-yards in the red zone.
A few plays later, Royce Freeman would run it in to close the score gap late in the third quarter to 19-14. Ultimately, the Broncos would win 23-22 on the road against a team that had won six-straight games.
Miller also secured his 100th career sack, reaching the milestone the fifth fasted in NFL history. For the season, Miller now has 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
It is the fourth time Miller has won this award, putting him atop the all-time list for Broncos players with Karl Mecklenburg (3) and Aqib Talib (2) behind him.
