Fans of the Seattle Seahawks have grown weary of the team’s struggles at the kicker position over the past two years since Steven Hauschka was allowed to leave for the Buffalo Bills following the 2016 season.
In 2017 the team had Blair Walsh on a one year contract, and his multiple missed kicked in cold weather contributed to the team missing the postseason that year for the first time in since 2011. That led to the Hawks bringing in former first round pick Sebastian Janikowski and journeyman Jason Myers for a kicking competition in 2018. Janikoswki won the competition in camp, but then had a lackluster 2018 season, including giving a less than stellar effort in attempting to tackle Richie James on a kickoff return and injuring his hamstring on a long field goal attempt in the Wild Card loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Meanwhile, it’s not as if the younger Myers had a quality season after being claimed off waivers by the New York Jets.

In any case, back to the Seahawks, they have added former Los Angeles Rams kicker Sam Ficken, signing him to a future contract. I would imagine that the team will likely sign a second kicker to bring in for competition during camp just as they did last season, however there’s a whole lot of offseason to go before making any judgements about who should or will be kicking for the Hawks in 2019.
