Billa died after a battle with pancreatic cancer this week.
Buffalo Bills superfan Pancho Billa, also known by his given name Ezra Castro, will be laid to rest this week in his home state of Texas. As arrangements were being planned, the team announced a special tribute to Castro will take place the weekend of the home opener, September 22nd in Orchard Park.
Castro’s long-time girlfriend Veronica Borjon and the team announced that instead of holding an event in Western New York now, it would be best to wait until a raucous Bills crowd could be in attendance.
“Before his death, Castro – a mortician – daydreamed about the idea of having another viewing this month at New Era Field,” according to The Buffalo News, who profiled Castro weeks before he died. “If Borjon had decided on such an event, she believes the Bills would have done their best to make it happen. But the sequence of memorials in Texas will be tiring for the entire family, and their son, Gino, is still not done with the school year.”
In the meantime, Bills fans (and non-Bills fans) are celebrating Castro’s legacy with a campaign aimed at providing school supplies to needy children. With the note #PANCHOSPACK in the subject line for donations, people have donated more than $60,000 in Pancho’s name to a local charity.
Today Del Reid, co-founder of Bills Mafia, asked us to partner with him to make Pancho’s wish come true. We are honored to be here for such a time as this. #PanchosPack #BillsMafia #TheTeachersDesk pic.twitter.com/J4u8VuwaMI

Those backpacks will be distributed in Western New York and throughout Texas in Castro’s memory. If you’d like to donate, click http://theteachersdesk.org/donate and use #PACHOSPACK in the message line. Corporate sponsors, past and present Bills players, and football fans from all over the country have lined up to be a part of Castro’s legacy.
