Report: Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson to be suspended six games

Tuesday it was reported that defensive lineman Dion Jordan, who had spent the last two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks was facing a ten game suspension for PED usage, and today word has come out that a star for the division rival Arizona Cardinals is facing a suspension for PED usage as well.

As NFL Insider for ESPN Adam Schefter later noted, Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson will miss the first six games of the season, including the Week 4 matchup when the Seahawks come to town. The suspension will cost Peterson $3,882,352 in lost salary through missed game checks, but on the bright side for the Cards it will save the team that much in cap space.

Peterson had been a mainstay in the Arizona secondary, having started all 128 games the Cardinals have played in the eight since being selected fifth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. Interestingly, the suspension is six games in length, which is unusual for a first time suspension for PED usage, and Dan Graziano, also of ESPN offered a couple of possible reasons why this could be the case.

So, it appears that either the league caught him using PEDs through a method other than testing, or he potentially failed a PED screening while also testing positive for a masking agent. In any case, he won’t be on the field in Week 4, potentially making things easier for the Seahawks against an opponent they needed game winning field goals as time expired to beat both times the two squads matched up during 2018.
