Eddie Jackson proved to be a top-tier safety in 2018, and his NFL Top 100 ranking solidifies that.
In the span of roughly 21 months, Eddie Jackson turned from a mid-round draft pick into arguably the best safety in the NFL.
After putting forth an All-Pro season which saw him finish the season with six interceptions—two of which being returned for touchdowns—15 pass deflections and 51 tackles, Jackson added another accolade to his résumé when he was ranked as the No. 30 player on the NFL Top 100 of 2019 list.
The Bears safety broke out in a major way in his second season. He made a handful fo splash plays in his rookie campaign, but he made great improvements to his game in 2018. His mental processing was much quicker last year, allowing him to jump routes and make plays on the ball that very few safeties in the league have the combination of instincts and quickness to make. Jackson’s range and ball skills made him a valuable center-fielder of a safety for Chicago’s defense and will ensure he be a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come.
Jackson marks the first Bears safety to make an appearance in the NFL Top 100, and the first defensive back since former cornerback Tim Jennings was ranked at No. 74 in 2014. He joins the likes of Akiem Hicks and Kyle Fuller as players who have already been ranked, and he will presumably be joined by Khalil Mack as the rest of the rankings are revealed.
