The Linc - Over or under 3,520 passing yards for Carson Wentz?

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 7/1/19.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

NFL over/under predictions: 32 picks for fantasy and win totals - ESPN
Over/under 3,520 passing yards for quarterback Carson Wentz? Over. Wentz was on pace for over 4,000 yards in each of the past two seasons before being sidelined by injuries. Really, this is a question about whether he’s going to stay on the field for 13-plus games this season. The bet here is that he does. He looks as healthy as we’ve seen him since 2017, has made adjustments to his diet and workout regimen, and appears wiser in terms of play approach after suffering season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons.

Eagles Question of the Day: Who is your favorite former Eagles player? - BGN
Ok, so yesterday we talked about all of our favorite current Eagles players — which was a hard enough task, in my opinion. Today, I want to take things a little further back. If having to pick one of 90 wasn’t challenging enough, having to pick through so many talented rosters over the duration of the Eagles franchise is just painful. My gut reaction is to go with Brian Dawkins, because who better represents the hear and soul of the team? No one, quite honestly. But then, I start thinking about David Akers, and how fun it was to watch Michael Vick, and that this is where I can finally name Chris Long as the guy — regardless of how recent his departure from the team is.

Around the League - Iggles Blitz
What about Pederson for the second best NFL coach? Pederson was brilliant in 2017. Last year he had to deal with a short offseason, coaching changes and unbelievable injuries. Pederson still got the Eagles to the playoffs and they came close to getting back to the NFC title game. Some doubters think the loss of Frank Reich will still be felt this year and that his loss has greatly affected Pederson. I think looking back on 2018 you can see there were a lot of issues to deal with and Pederson did a better job than many people understood. There is no question that he’s a good coach. I think 2019 will give us a better idea of just how good he is.

Every NFL team’s X-factor entering the 2019 season - PFF
Avonte Maddox struggled from a grading perspective as a rookie last season but did show a penchant for limiting receivers in his coverage. In fact, he led all cornerbacks by allowing a reception just once every 21.7 snaps he spent in coverage and limited opposing quarterbacks to a passer rating of just 59.9 when targeted.

Duce Staley breaks down Philadelphia Eagles running backs, including Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders and more - PennLive
Staley on Clement: “Yeah, I missed Corey, I really do. I miss Corey. He’s one of those passionate guys that plays with attitude. He comes out, he’s excited, he’s always smiling. He loves the game, and I think it was difficult just for him, just coming off the Super Bowl, of course — in my opinion, it could have been if Nick didn’t play through the roof of course he might have been the MVP — you never know. So coming off a game like that, being able to now see a guy like him on the rise and being able to face an injury. I felt what he was going through, had a chance to talk to him periodically, communicate with him to try to keep his spirits up of course, but mentally, he’s tough. Physically, right now, he looks good out there running, so I can’t wait to get him back.”

The NFL in a Small Town - FMIA
Peter King is on vacation until July 15, and he lined up some guest writers to fill his Monday spot on Football Morning in America. Today, it’s Hugh Royal of Richfield, Idaho, who was selected out of a few hundred readers who submitted essays on why they wanted to be an FMIA guest columnist.

The United States beat France with a defense that refused to quit - All For XI
France couldn’t find their way past the United States backline, whether that was by dribble or with balls over the top. Julie Ertz dropped back into the defensive line which gave the United States one more level of protection. The shape was a 5-4-1 and even though France finished the game with 20 shots to the United States’ 10 shots, only five of France’s chances were on net, compared to eight for the US.

Sixers sign Al Horford to 4-year deal - Liberty Ballers
Following the sign-and-trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Miami for Josh Richardson, the Sixers had enough cap space to make one more major move in free agency. They then wasted no time in revealing that major move to be former Celtics big man Al Horford. [BLG Note: Lots of Sixers stuff going on over at LB!]

Is it Beyoncé’s fault the 49ers lost their only Super Bowl appearance in the last 25 years? - SB Nation
When Beyoncé took the stage at Super Bowl 47, the San Francisco 49ers were already in a 21-6 hole. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw three first-half touchdowns and the San Francisco offense was struggling to keep up. The good news for the 49ers was they had a propensity for picking up the pace after halftime. San Francisco outscored opponents by 28 points in the first half in 2012 and 114 points in the second half. Just two weeks before the Super Bowl, they clawed back from a 17-0 deficit to beat the Falcons in the NFC Championship Game. So while Beyoncé was out performing an extravagant halftime show with a mini Destiny’s Child reunion, San Francisco was prepping for its comeback.
