Cowboys still hope to sign Dak Prescott to extension before Sunday

The Dallas Cowboys have pulled off a flurry of contract extensions with core players this summer, yet Dak Prescott is not one of them. Team executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday that he’s “still holding out hope” that a deal can get done before the Cowboys play their Week 1 game Sunday against the New York Giants. Prescott, a fourth-round pick in 2016, is set to play out the final year of his rookie deal and would make just over $2 million this season if he does not ink a long-term extension. No doubt, the young quarterback wants to be paid more than what Jared Goff received in his new record-breaking extension with the Los Angeles Rams. There’s a bit of risk for both Prescott and the ‘Boys if they cannot come to an agreement before the regular season begins. For Prescott, an injury would be potentially catastrophic to his cause, depending on severity.
