Cowboys Tweetcap Week 2: Relive the teams battering of Washington in 31-21 road win

Dak Prescott is on an absolute tear through the first few weeks of NFL football.

The Cowboys moved to 2-0 after a 31-21 victory over the Washington Redskins. Let’s look to the wonderful world of social media to relive this big division win.

FIRST QUARTER

Nothing great happened in the first quarter for the Cowboys. The offense started very sluggish and after punting their first possession, the second one ended worse. As Dak Prescott slings it under duress to Randall Cobb, it’s tipped and intercepted by Montae Nicholson:

Before the end of the first quarter, Washington was in the red zone looking to take an early lead.

SECOND QUARTER

Quickly, Adrian Peterson moved a little higher on the list of All-Time Greats to punch it in for the home team:

On the ensuing Cowboys drive, Dak Prescott is driven right into the painful embrace of Ryan Kerrigan, not a place you want to be. Cowboys punt soon after.

Thankfully, when the needed some momentum, Tyrone Crawford was able to give the Cowboys defense a sack of their own:

Though a penalty on special teams pinned the Cowboys offense at their own three-yard line, the Cowboys didn’t let that deter them in the least. Dak Prescott decided to start picking on that Washington secondary.

On the seventh play of the drive, Dak decided to take a shot at Josh Norman and it paid off to the tune of a 51-yard game-tying touchdown. It wasn’t Amari Cooper, Randall Cobb, or Michael Gallup but instead, Devin Smith. The ball was placed perfectly in front of Smith as a trailing Norman was desperately looking for safety help:

The Cowboys got the ball back quickly thanks to a three-and-out posted by the defense. Kellen Moore and Dak Prescott were looking to break that tie score with over four minutes to play before halftime. Dak could not help but show Josh Norman why it’s not smart to discredit your opponent prior to playing against them:

Here is how Prescott described that play:

“I was a little caught in-between. Indecisiveness right there. I wanted to let Gallup obviously get in front of me and block Norman, but then again, I felt like I was going to have to slow down too much. I’m not the fastest,” Prescott smiled, “so I didn’t know what was behind me or what was coming up behind me. At that point, yeah, I was just going for the stiff-arm.”

Several plays later and with a helping hand from Montez Sweat’s roughing call, Dak connects with Jason Witten for the touchdown and the lead.

It was Jason Witten’s 70th touchdown catch, he trails Dez Bryant by three touchdowns in the record books:

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER

Having deferred the coin-toss, the Cowboys started the third quarter with the rock in tow. Michael Gallup picks up a couple of key receptions to keep the offense driving including this one through plenty of contact:

On 3rd and 4 at the Washington 30, Amari Cooper keeps this drive alive into the red zone:

Cooper shows back up on your screen just seconds later for his second touchdown on the season. Amari Cooper makes it look so easy:

With a 21-7 lead, the Cowboys were cruising to another victory but not before Washington would make things interesting with an 11-play, 70-yard scoring drive. Case Keenum fed the football to Paul Richardson to make this a one-score affair:

Closing out the third quarter, the Cowboys with possession of the football decided to get Tony Pollard more involved. Ezekiel Elliott was getting a breather for a fourth-quarter close-out as Pollard stepped in and was averaging 5+ yards per carry.

FOURTH QUARTER

If not for a penalty on Amari Cooper, Pollard would have had his first NFL touchdown. Oh well, the Cowboys still put up points with Brett Maher making a 25-yard field goal to extend the lead back to double-digits at 24-14.

Washington is forced to go for it on 4th and 3 but Case Keenum sails the ball over Chris Thompson and the Cowboys get the ball back forcing a turnover on downs.

Dak Prescott goes back to well with Smith and Witten to set up shop in the red zone once again. Ezekiel Elliott is fed for his second touchdown on the season and the lead is 31-14 in favor of the Cowboys:

Washington would add a third touchdown on the day but it was too little and way too late for Jay Gruden’s bunch as it came with 2:20 left to play. The Cowboys effectively use Elliott to pick up the first down with a 27-yard run that ices this football game. It was another nice showing for the offense putting up over 400-yards for a second straight week. Dallas was also 7 of 11 on third down while owning time of possession by a mile. The Cowboys moved to 2-0 and now face a Dolphins team that is giving up points by the truckload. So far, so good for the Dallas Cowboys.
