Da’Shawn Hand downgraded to OUT vs. Cardinals

The Lions will be without one of their top defensive linemen.

Last year, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand saw his rookie season end in Arizona after suffering a knee injury. Unfortunately, Hand won’t get the opportunity to take the field again in Glendale this year, as the Lions announced they’ve downgraded Hand to OUT for Sunday’s season opener against the Cardinals.

Hand suffered an elbow injury at the beginning of training camp and has slowly worked his way back to practice. He has shed a heavy arm brace he wore for a couple of weeks and was a limited participant in practice all week. However, during the portion of practice open to the media, Hand was not participating in many drills.

Perhaps more interesting is that linebacker Jarrad Davis remains questionable, despite suffering what appeared to be a severe ankle injury in the third preseason game. But Davis, too, has been practicing this week in a limited fashion and, much like Hand, he’s sat out most individual drills. The fact that he remains questionable likely means he made the trip to Arizona with the team on friday, but he still feels like a longshot to play on Sunday.

Both starting center Frank Ragnow and cornerback Rashaan Melvin remain questionable, too.
