Eagles fans rooting guide for Week 1 games

Here are the teams you should be rooting for ... and against.

The first football Sunday of the 2019 NFL season has arrived! Here’s a look at which teams Philadelphia Eagles fans should be rooting for during Week 1 games.

EAGLES GAME

WASHINGTON REDSKINS AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: There’s no better way to start the season than with a win over a division rival. Root for the Eagles, DUH.

NFC EAST

NEW YORK GIANTS AT DALLAS COWBOYS: The Cowboys are easily the biggest threat to the Eagles in the NFC East so it wouldn’t be so bad to see them lose. The silver lining to a Dallas win, though, is that Eli Manning’s starting record will drop to 116-115. Can’t wait to see his career finish with a losing record. Root against the Cowboys.

NFC TEAMS

LOS ANGELES RAMS AT CAROLINA PANTHERS: When Sean McVay loses, everybody wins. Root for the Panthers.

ATLANTA FALCONS AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS: The Eagles play the Falcons in Atlanta next week. Some will want to see the Falcons win this week so they won’t be as desperate coming off a Week 1 loss. I’d rather the Falcons just look bad in a loss. They’re the bigger threat to Philly in the NFC, anyway. Root against the Falcons.

CINCINNATI BENGALS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: Always an easy call to root for the AFC team to beat the NFC team. Probably a fruitless exercise here, though. Root for the Bengals.

DETROIT LIONS AT ARIZONA CARDINALS: The Eagles play the Lions in Week 3. I’m using the same logic that I previously talked about with the Falcons and saying that Eagles fans should root for the Lions to look bad. Root for the Cardinals.

HOUSTON TEXANS AT NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: I don’t think I need to encourage you to root against the Saints but you obviously should since they’re an NFC team facing an AFC team. Not to mention the Saints and Eagles could be competing for a No. 1 seed this year. Root for the Texans.

DRAFT PICK WATCH

PITTSBURGH STEELERS AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: The Eagles acquired the Patriots’ fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft from the Michael Bennett trade. Might as well root for it to be a high one, even though it likely won’t be! Additionally, screw the Pats. Root for the Steelers.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS AT TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: The Eagles acquired the Buccaneers’ seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft from the DeSean Jackson trade. Might as well root for it to be a high one! Root for the 49ers.

WHAT’S LEFT

BUFFALO BILLS AT NEW YORK JETS: The Eagles play the Jets in Week 5 so it wouldn’t be horrible if they look bad. Of course, the Eagles also play the Bills in Week 9, so the same logic could be applied. I think it’s still worth rooting for Sam Darnold to succeed so the Giants regret passing on him. Also rooting for Joe Douglas to succeed. Root for the Jets, I guess.

BALTIMORE RAVENS AT MIAMI DOLPHINS: The Eagles play the Dolphins later this year. Would be nice if they’re as bad as they’re believed to be. Pick up an easy road win in December. Root for the Ravens.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS AT JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: Tough one! Andy Reid versus Nick Foles. I’ll say people should be rooting for Big Red so we can be spared the “Should of kept Foles!” (sic) insanity. Plus, wouldn’t you rather see KC take the No. 1 seed in the AFC rather than the Pats? Root for the Chiefs.

TENNESSEE TITANS AT CLEVELAND BROWNS: I think the Browns hype train getting a reality check in Week 1 wouldn’t be so bad. Root for the Titans.

DENVER BRONCOS AT OAKLAND RAIDERS: Uh, who cares?
