Both teams come into Monday with plenty of questions.
The first week of the NFL season was not kind to the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets, and tonight’s Monday Night Football tilt figures to be an interesting one.
The Cleveland Browns entered this season with plenty of optimism and playoff aspirations. However, after a 43-13 shellacking at the hands of the Tennessee Titans, some are wondering if these are the Browns of old. Star quarterback Baker Mayfield is coming off an excellent rookie season, but in wake of a three-interception debut against the Titans, he is looking to reclaim his form. That should not be an issue given the talent around him. The big offseason acquisition, Odell Beckham Jr., and running back Nick Chubb highlight the talent on offense.
The New York Jets, meanwhile, are struggling for different reasons. Second-year quarterback Sam Darnold will not be playing after contracting mono this week. In his stead will be Trevor Siemian, the former Bronco and Viking. Safe to say, the Jets figure to lean on their own big-name free agent acquisition, Le’Veon Bell. After a close loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, the Jets want to stay in the chase in the weak AFC East. The New England Patriots will likely once again top the division, but with a lackluster Bills team and a tanking Miami Dolphins, there is ample opportunity to claim a Wild Card spot.
Then again, it is just Week 2. The playoffs are a long way off. Can the Browns live up to the hype? Can the Jets keep things afloat without their starting quarterback?
