Packers - Bears: It’s the first football game of the season, baby

Here’s your open thread, baby.

It’s not Falcons football—we’ll be getting that Sunday—but it is the very first regular season game of the 2019 NFL season, and it does feature two likely NFC contenders you’ll want to keep your eye on this year. So as is our custom, we throw open the commenting floodgates for those of you planning to watch this game.

The matchup itself is legitimately interesting. If you’re looking at it purely from the Falcons fan perspective, you’ve got new Packers head coach Matt LaFleur on the sidelines for Green Bay, and we’ll get our first real look at how this team looks with him at the helm. LaFleur was a hot coaching candidate this offseason and a guy more than a few Falcons fans were hoping would take over at offensive coordinator instead of Steve Sarkisian, so it’ll be interesting to see if this Packers offense can be as good as it’s been hyped up to be. Certainly there’s plenty of talent there, and the defense in Green Bay looks solid at the very least.

Then there’s the Bears. Former Falcon Taylor Gabriel is there, but they’re a team with a ton of promise and a handful of truly elite players like Khalil Mack, guys who could make the leap like Mitch Trubisky, and intriguing young players like running back David Montgomery. On paper, at least, they’re probably the better team than Green Bay, but as this is a divisional game and the talent gap isn’t all that wide, no result would surprise me.

Weigh in with your thoughts on the game here and follow along.
