Packers-Bears live thread

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers reacts after throwing an incomplete pass against the Chicago Bears, Dec. 16, 2018. Rodgers asks God to activate his X-Factor. | Milwaukee Journal Sentinel-USA T

And so it begins.

The 2019 regular season is upon us tonight with the Green Bay Packers heading to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bears.

In terms of spectacle, we could do worse.

The visitors come in trying to bounce back from a disappointing 2018 season in which they went 6-9-1. It was just their fourth losing season since 1992 and the first time they’ve had back-to-back losing records in that span. Their nine losses mounted despite QB Aaron Rodgers playing fantastically (4,442 passing yards, 25 passing TDs, 2 INTs) through a knee injury...that he suffered in Week 1 against Chicago. The real intrigue is how the offense will look under first year Head Coach Matt LaFleur, the Rams’ offensive coordinator two years ago who took a lateral promotion with the Tennessee Titans last year.

For the Bears, they’re on the Los Angeles Rams’ track albeit a year behind. The 2016 Rams floundered offensively with their defensively-minded, outdated coach after taking a QB early in that year’s draft; the 2017 Bears floundered offensively with their defensively-minded, outdated coach after taking a QB early in that year’s draft. The 2017 Rams hired a young upstart offensive coordinator to transform things which led to a winning season and a division crown but disappointed by cutting their playoff run short after just one game; the 2018 Bears hired a young upstart offensive coordinator to transform things which led to a winning season and a division crown but disappointed by cutting their playoff run short after just one game. The 2018 Rams built on their newfound success by adding some key veterans in free agency and rode overall improvement in the team to a Super Bowl appearance; the 2019 Bears built on their newfound success by adding some key veterans in free agency and...start their season tonight.
