SNF: Patriots vs Steelers Game Thread

NFL: New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday Night Football, Week 1. The first Sunday Night game of the 100th anniversary 2019 NFL regular season. Tonight the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Foxboro, Massachusetts to take on the hated New England Patriots.

This is a great matchup to kick off the Sunday Night Football schedule. Two of the most successful franchises in the NFL duking it out, with the added spice of ex-Steeler wide receiver Antonio Brown having recently crazied his way out of Oakland to join up with the arch rival Patriots. Brown won’t suit up for this game, but there will still be no lack of heat between these two teams.

The Patriots have been the Steelers’ kryptonite over the last two decades. Since 2000 the Patriots are 11-4 against the Steelers, and have knocked the Steelers out of the playoffs all three times the two teams have met in the post-season.

Ben Roethlisberger led the NFL and set career highs in completions (452), attempts (675) and passing yards (5129) last season. That’s great, but unfortunately he’s matched up against an even greater quarterback in Tom Brady. Brady’s 111.3 passer rating against the Steelers is his second-best against any opponent in his storied career. Brady is 5-0 all-time against the Steelers in Foxboro with 18 touchdown passes, no interceptions and a 130.8 QB rating. That’s not a great portent for the Steelers coming into this game, but every game provides a new opportunity to break with the past.

It’s the Patriots and the Steelers in the Sunday Night Football season debut.

Enjoy the game everybody.
