Thursday Night Football, Week 1. Tonight the Green Bay Packers travel to Chicago, Illinois to take on an old divisional rival in the Chicago Bears.
This is a fitting matchup to kick off the NFL’s 100th anniversary season. The Bears and the Packers are an ancient and bitter rivalry. They have played each other a whopping 196 times, the most of any two teams in NFL history. The Packers hold a 96-94-6 advantage in the all-time series, and they are 16-4 against Chicago over the last 10 seasons.
The Bears were the better team last year with a sparkling 12-4 record, while the Packers struggled and missed the playoffs, a rarity in the Aaron Rodgers era. A big part of the Packers’ struggles last year was a defense that generated just 15 turnovers, tied for the team’s fewest in a season in the Super Bowl era. The Bears, on the other hand, led the NFL with 36 defensive turnovers.
It’s the Packers and the Bears in an intriguing matchup to start the 2019-20 NFL season. Are you ready for some football?
Enjoy the game everybody.
