He fills Josh Doctson’s spot on the roster

When the Minnesota Vikings placed wide receiver Josh Doctson on injured reserve on Thursday with a leg injury, it left them with four wide receivers on the 53-man roster. After the team made a roster move to fill Doctson’s spot. . .they still only have four wide receivers.

To fill Doctson’s spot on the roster, the Vikings elevated cornerback Nate Meadors from the practice squad to the active roster.

Meadors made a pretty nice first impression on the Vikings in the preseason, as he collected a pick-six in the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints. He didn’t make the club out of Training Camp, however, and had to settle for a practice squad spot. With the Vikings dealing with injuries to both Mackensie Alexander (elbow) and Mark Fields (groin), they apparently decided they needed the depth at corner more than receiver.

That means that the wide receivers on the Vikings roster are Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Chad Beebe, and Bisi Johnson. That’s what they went with in Week 1, and it appears that’s how they’ll roll into Lambeau Field as well.

To fill the spot on the practice squad vacated by Meadors, the Vikings did bring in another wide receiver, bringing Alexander Hollins back to the practice squad. Hollins played sparingly for the Vikings in the preseason, hauling in just two receptions.

With the signing of Hollins, the Vikings now have three wide receivers on their ten-man practice squad, with Hollins joining Davion Davis and Dillon Mitchell.
