Chiefs-49ers Wednesday injury report: Robinson sick, two others limited

NFL: AFC Divisional Round-Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Only one Chiefs player didn’t practice on Wednesday.

Each practice day of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs release an official injury report leading up to the next game. The Chiefs travel to Miami Gardens, Florida to face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV a week from this Sunday at 5:20 p.m. Arrowhead Time.

Here is the Chiefs’ first injury report from Wednesday — the first of the week:

Notes:

  • On Wednesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that defensive tackle Chris Jones “feels pretty good.” Jones was limited to 28 snaps — about two in five defensive snaps — against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. “He didn’t have a setback, so that was good,” Reid said. “We kept it to that 20-play area right there — which was smart, I think.” It’s likely that Jones being limited this week is just the team giving him as much opportunity as possible for his strained calf to heal up.
  • While he didn’t address Travis Kelce directly, the tight end is likely in much the same situation as Jones. Unlike the week before against the Houston Texans, Kelce was not limited in snaps on Sunday. Just the same, the team will likely want to give him as much rest as possible before the championship game.
  • Reid said Demarcus Robinson missed Wednesday’s practice with an illness. “He’s sick,” said the head coach. “Getting better, but sick.”
  • 49ers running back Tevin Coleman suffered what was reported to be a dislocated shoulder during the team’s win against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. While he did not practice on Wednesday, there is optimism in San Francisco that he will be available for the Super Bowl.
  • 49ers defensive end Dee Ford missed some games in the second half of the season with a quadricep injury. He played what appears to have been a normal snap count in the 49ers’ two postseason games. It is likely he is being limited to give his injury more time to heal.
