The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly “close” to hiring former Washington head coach Jay Gruden to be their next offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The #Jaguars plan to hire former #Redskins coach Jay Gruden as their next offensive coordinator, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. Deal isn’t done, but the Jaguars are close to adding a very talented OC with a great pedigree in the role.

The Jaguars were in talks with a lot of former offensive coordinators, head coaches, and quarterbacks coaches. But I think Gruden gives you an advantage with his experience in developing Gardner Minshew. After all, he made Andy Dalton look serviceable. (SERVICEABLE!)
I also think his scheme when it comes to the passing game would enhance Minshew’s gifts — he’d allow him to roll out of the pocket more, increased play action, and passes that rely on timing and accuracy.
We’ll see how this shakes out, but Gruden has been the odds on favorite in my mind.
What do you think? Should the Jaguars hire Gruden to run their offense? Or do they need to look elsewhere? Let us know in the comments below!
