The 2020 Pro Bowl Skills Challenge is over, and the only reason we’re covering it is because Russell Wilson was involved, and just like last year, he kicked ass.

Wilson led all passers in the “Precision Passing” competition, scoring 19 points to help the NFC annihilate the AFC in the first game. Kirk Cousins was also impressive with his 18-point outing, while presumptive league MVP Lamar Jackson sputtered with just 2 points.

Wilson and Davante Adams didn’t quite click as well as Russ did with Adam Thielen in the “Best Hands” showdown. Cordarrelle Patterson may be officially a wide receiver, but he’s known as a special teams returner and since he was the only other WR/TE who participated for the NFC, he got to team up with Kirk Cousins. Those two took forever to complete their half of the course, then Wilson and Adams erred on the diving catch and that cost them some time.

The AFC took the win thanks to Lamar Jackson-Mark Andrews and DeShaun Watson-Jarvis Landry. They also owned the NFC in the “Gridiron Gauntlet,” a fun obstacle course that was decided when Von Miller owned the fumble recovery leg.

A new game this year called “Thread the Needle” should be a permanent fixture, if you ask me. All four quarterbacks had to throw passes through targets, but you lose three points if a defensive back intercepts you. Russ got picked once by Stephon Gilmore and Minkah Fitzpatrick, but still topped all QBs with 16 points. He was the only one to hit those five-point throws, and those were truly threading the needle.

The deciding game was “Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball,” and the AFC prevailed two games to none. Wilson was eliminated in game one after an audacious attempt to catch a dodgeball while he had a ball in his hand. Poor strategy that is, quite frankly, grounds for trading him.

I know he’s not a Seahawk, but I am a dodgeball fan and Jarvis Landry should be in the Dodgeball Hall of Fame. The AFC was faced with a 2 vs. 4 situation and Jarvis got three NFC players out with phenomenal catches.

This has been your Pro Bowl Skills Challenge report. The actual game is Sunday (ideally a little bit warmer than it was today in Orlando) at 12 PM PT on ABC and ESPN.
