2020 NFL Season Opener Discussion: Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs

NFL: Super Bowl LIV-Winning Coach and Super Bowl MVP Press Conference Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

A test run for Sunday’s Vikings opener

So, I’m not sure if you’re aware, but the 2020 NFL season kicks off in a little over thirty minutes here with a rematch of the 2019 AFC Divisional Playoffs. Yes, we will actually get some live, honest-to-goodness NFL football as the defending NFL Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, play host to the Houston Texans.

When these two teams met in January in the Divisional Playoffs, it looked like the Texans were going to be able to make plans to host their first ever AFC Championship Game as they took a shocking 24-0 lead early in the second quarter at Arrowhead. Then, the Chiefs woke up and scored 41. . .yes, forty-one. . .unanswered points to take the lead and eventually emerge with a 51-31 victory over the Texans.

Patrick Mahomes, fresh off of signing a contract extension worth over half a billion dollars, will lead the Chiefs into this one. He’ll be dueling with DeShaun Watson, who may have some issues on offense with star receiver DeAndre Hopkins now plying his trade in Arizona.

We want to use this as a bit of a test run for our Open Threads for Sunday’s opener for the Vikings against the Packers. In order to give yourself the best Game Day Thread experience possible, try the following:

  1. Change your “Sort By” option to “Oldest.” This will put the newest comments at the bottom, and the comment box will move there as well.
  2. If you’re using a computer, you can move down the comments by using the “C” key, and you can move back up by using “Shift-C.” This can also be used to load more comments.
  3. Under your “My Profile” tab, you can keep track of replies to your comments and sign up for e-mail notifications to your replies.
  4. You can also auto-show all images/GIFs/Tweets by opting into such under “My Profile - Preferences.”

With that, we are about thirty minutes from kickoff in Kansas City. You’ll be able to find this one on your local NBC affiliate if you want to watch along with us.
