Arizona Cardinals open 2020 season with road win over San Francisco 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals and their new offense started slow, but their defense was able to make plays to keep it close.

It was key, as the Arizona Cardinals offense picked it up in the second half and took game one of the 2020 season in a 24-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Then it seemed like it was 2019 all over again.

The Arizona Cardinals took a 17-13 lead in the fourth quarter and the Vance Joseph defense of yesteryear was back.

The 49ers moved down the field and it looked like Isaiah Simmons had his second blown coverage of the game, leading to the Cardinals trailing 20-17.

For the second straight possession though, the Arizona Cardinals and their offense behind Kyler Murray’s arm and legs, and the newly acquired DeAndre Hopkins put the Cardinals back in front 24-20.

Hopkins was a mad man in his debut for the Cardinals, catching 14 passes for 151 yards.

Murray threw for 230 yards and one touchdown and one interception. He also had 91 yards rushing and a touchdown on the day.

The offensive performance gave enough for the Cardinals to get a win, the question became again, could the Arizona Cardinals defense finish it off.

They did.

Despite letting the 49ers back into the redzone, Byron Murphy and the Arizona Cardinals made plays on defense.

You can see the difference in speed for the Cardinals on defense and you can see the impact DeAndre Hopkins makes on offense.

What a first game for the Arizona Cardinals.
