Henderson takes the reins in Week 2

Last week, it was Malcolm Brown but Darrell Henderson had something to prove, apparently

Sure, anytime your quarterback throws for three touchdowns (all to the same player), you would be right to think that the game belonged to the passing attack. But for the Los Angeles Rams Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, 37-19, the rushing attack was a lot more than an afterthought.

The Rams ran the ball 39 times against the Eagles, totaling 191 net rushing yards and two scores on the ground. The stable of running backs specifically toted the rock 26 of those attempts for 141 yards and one touchdown.

Darrell Henderson led all Ram ball carriers with 12 carries and 81 yards as well as the touchdown. Malcolm Brown carried it 47 yards on 11 carries while rookie running back Cam Akers carried it three times for 13 yards.

Both Brown and Akers were hampered with injuries, Brown’s a finger injury while Akers left with a rib injury. Sean McVay had no updates immediately after the game.

Fortunately for the Rams, Henderson stepped up big time, averaging a whopping 6.8 yards per carry, albeit his numbers are certainly buoyed by a 40-yard pick up which was the game’s longest play.

Henderson carried it for five total first downs and forced five missed tackles in the outing, in what could be considered his career-best performance to date. He tallied just 147 yards on the ground last season and scored his first career touchdown against the Eagles.

Henderson also showcased what made him such a special back at Memphis, catching two passes for another 40 yards, leading all players in the game with 121 total yards.

And most importantly, this came after just three carries for six yards against the Dallas Cowboys a week ago.

Having interchangeable running backs in today’s NFL is crucial and for the Rams, they clearly have at least two guys who can step up and take the reins at any given notice. And that’s not including Akers, who by all means could absolutely develop into such a player.

It’s terrible for you fantasy football players out there, but it certainly seems to work for McVay and Co. when either one of the guys in the backfield takes over for the day.

I mean, they are 1-0 when Brown takes over and 1-0 when Henderson took charge.

I’m no math expert, but that’s 2-0 in any book.
