The Denver Broncos will host the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football this week. Here is everything you need to know about the game!
The Denver Broncos will kickoff the 2020 regular season at home against the Tennessee Titans in a Monday Night Football showdown. Both teams finished last season strong, but while the Broncos were far out of contention when their spark hit, the Titans nearly ran all the way to the Super Bowl.
Game Preview
After starting the season 2-4, the Titans began their run after a 16-0 shutout loss to the Broncos in Week 6. From there, they finished the season 7-3 and ran the gambit beating the 12-4 New England Patriots, then the 14-2 Baltimore Ravens before coming up short in the AFC Championship game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
This is certainly a team the Broncos should take very seriously here in Week 1.
With the loss of Von Miller for three months or longer, all eyes are now going to be on their young, upstart second-year quarterback in Drew Lock. There will be growing pains in Year 2, but how much and how quickly will he grow into the kind of quarterback Broncos Country all hope he will be?
According to Head Coach Vic Fangio on Saturday, Lock is getting more comfortable with the offense. However, you could sense he understood there will be bumps in the road - especially early on.
“Like all young quarterbacks in a new offense there’s good plays, bad plays,” Fangio said. “Overall, I’ve seen steady improvement. When you don’t look at it play by play, but you look at it every couple of days, every week, I do think there’s been improvement. He’s got his work cut out for him as our entire offense does. Tennessee was the one team that slowed down the Baltimore train last year. Baltimore was just rolling through everybody with lots of points, lots of yards until they faced Tennessee in the playoff game. We have our hands full on offense for sure. Hopefully he’ll play well.”
There should be a bit of a regression from the Titans this season, but they are still going to be a tough out for Denver in Week 1. A lot is going to have to go right in the empty stands of Empower Field at Mile High on Monday night.

The Broncos originally opened slight home favorites, but when the Titans signed Jadaveon Clowney the line moved to a 1-point advantage for Tennessee. Then Von Miller went down and Courtland Sutton might be out, so there are several places that have upped the line to 2.5-points in favor of the visiting team.
Matchup History
The Tennessee Titans, also remembered as the Houston Oilers, are one of the few teams the Broncos do not have an all-time winning record against. The Titans own a 23-18-1 all-time advantage over Denver dating back to the AFL’s inaugural 1960 season. However, it really is a tale of two halves. In the first 11 seasons, Denver was 4-15-1 against the old Houston Oilers team. Since then, Denver has dominated the series going 14-8 over that span that included a 2-1 record in the playoffs.

Broncos Country was quite confident heading into Week 1 when 90% of the SB Nation Reacts survey respondents said they were confident in the Denver Broncos. The very next day Von Miller went down, then later that week Courtland Sutton suffered an injury that might keep him out of the first game. So I decided to re-run the poll on Friday to see where things stood with the fan base. 59% had flipped over to the “not confident” side of things. Ouch.
