Monday Night Football, Week 1, Game 2. The second game of tonight’s Monday Night Football doubleheader. Tonight the Tennessee Titans travel to Colorado to take on the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos are a team devastated by injuries, with six players on injured reserve, two more out for this game, and five more questionable. Von Miller is out, and Bradley Chubb is questionable, potentially neutering what should be a formidable Broncos pass rush. On offense the best receiver, Courtland Sutton, may not suit up, and prized rookie wide receiver KJ Hamler is out and rookie tight end Albert Okwuegbunam is questionable. Rookie wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is healthy and may have to carry a lot more of the offensive load in the passing game than was originally anticipated. Young quarterback Drew Lock will try to build on his success in limited action a year ago with this depleted group, and will likely lean heavily on running backs Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon to make the offense go tonight.
The Titans are all about running the ball and playing tough defense. Derrick Henry had a breakout year last year, and the Titans no doubt will lean on Henry heavily to carry the load on offense this year. The Titans don’t throw much, but when they do, quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be leaning on star wide receiver A.J. Brown to make plays downfield.
With both teams favoring conservative, ground based offense supported by tough defenses, this will likely be a low scoring affair. The Titans should have the advantage simply because they are much healthier, but hey, they don’t play the games on paper.
It’s the Titans and the Broncos on the back end of tonight’s Monday Night Football doubleheader.
