Monday night football thread: The Saints take on the Raiders

The New Orleans Saints travel to Las Vegas to play the Raiders after both teams won their Week 1 matchups, albeit for many different reasons. The scoreboard looks like the Saints put up big numbers, but Drew Brees struggled just as much if not more than Jimmy Garoppolo during Week 1. For the first time since I could remember, Brees looked “old.” Now, he’ll have to play without his top target, Michael Thomas, who has a mild high ankle sprain. Don’t feel sorry for Brees, though. He still has Alvin Kamara, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jared Cook. Plus, the Saints like Taysom Hill.

The Saints’ defense was impressive last week. Janoris Jenkins had a pick-six, and but their secondary was all over. The addition of Malcolm Jenkins looks to have paid off. On the edge, Trey Hendrickson and Cameron Jordan gave Tampa Bay’s tackles big-time issues. Remember when the 49ers had Sam Young on the roster last preseason? He’s the right tackle for the Raiders. Both him and Kolton Miller will have their hands full against New Orleans.

I love Jon Gruden, the play-caller, and am fascinated to see how plans to keep the Saints defense honest. After the first drive, check-down Carr showed his face. Henry Ruggs will play, and Josh Jacobs has quickly turned into one of the better runners in the NFL. This will be a fun game.

The Raiders are six-point underdogs, but I think they cover.
