What’s LA looking to get out of Patrick this week?

The Los Angeles Rams can activate players from the practice squad to play in regular season games this season without having to release someone from the 53-man roster and they’re using their first opportunity to do so on linebacker Natrez Patrick. The rules implemented for this season include being able to activate up to two players per game and each player can be activated up to twice per season.

Patrick is the first such activation and the only one this week as the Rams face the Philadelphia Eagles at 10 AM PT on Sunday.

Patrick was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2019 after four years at Georgia and subsequently made the practice squad. He eventually was active for 12 games, mostly playing on special teams. He could be used at either inside or outside linebacker. In Week 1, the Rams played Micah Kiser for every snap, Leonard Floyd on 94-percent of the snaps, Samson Ebukam on 74-percent and Kenny Young on 53-percent.

Troy Reeder was active but played in zero snaps on defense, while Justin Hollins got five and Jachai Polite got one. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo played 16 snaps. Is Patrick pushing for Young’s snaps in practice?

He’s done enough to be active this week.
