Pig Pen Podcast: Previewing the Cardinals w/Ed Smith

Who’s ready to go 2-0?!?!? It’s a bold question, I know, but the Washington Football Team has the opportunity to go 2-0 for the first time since 2011. Ironically, it was a 22-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals that gave us that second victory.

A lot has changed for both teams since 2011. The Cardinals have become one of the most explosive offenses on paper. But on paper means nothing with Chase Young, Ryan Kerrigan, Jon Allen, Da’Ron Payne, Matt Ioannidis and Montez Sweat (still searching for a nickname for this group) breathing down your neck.

This should be a fun matchup.

Ed Smith, four-year NFL vet and host of the Bleav in Cardinals podcast, joined me for this preview pod. Smith helped preview what we can expect to see offensively from the Cardinals and how to prepare for Chandler Jones. SPOILER ALERT: There’s no good way to “prepare” for Jones.

Following the conversation with Smith I added a few points as to what I want to see this weekend and why the Washington Football Team think the team will reach 2-0.

Keys:

Play a complete game

As fun as the 17-0 comeback was last week the Cardinals aren’t the Eagles. The offense is way too explosive and they aren’t nearly as bitten by the injury bug. No silly penalties and having the foot on the gas early, no exceptions.

Pray about Chandler Jones

Chandler Jones has 61 sacks since joining the Cardinals in 2016. That’s the most of any player in the NFL in that time frame and nine more than Aaron Donald. God help us.

Open up the passing game.

As great as the win was last week the lack of big explosive plays in the passing game was hard to miss. However, Dwayne Haskins got significantly more comfortable and confident as the game went on. Get Haskins into a rhythm quickly and let him show off that cannon of an arm he has.

Both Ed Smith and I also broke down the matchup between Terry McLaurin and Patrick Peterson. Get the ball to Scary Terry.

Prediction: WFT 24, Cardinals 20
