I think it’s totally fair to question the path Howie Roseman and the organization chose this offseason. They invested in the defense with the Darius Slay trade and the Javon Hargrave signing. They passed on opportunities to add veteran, proven wide receivers. And I was not a fan of the Jalen Hurts pick. I thought the Eagles should have gone all-in on the passing game this offseason and focused on giving Wentz every chance possible to be successful. Jim Schwartz could have gotten the defense to competency even if the personnel wasn’t great. This isn’t a hindsight take based on one game. It’s what I wrote throughout the offseason in the links above. That doesn’t mean I was right, but it’s how I felt, and it’s how I still feel. Roseman did an excellent job of cleaning up Chip Kelly’s mess and delivered the Eagles a Super Bowl. But this team is 18-15 in the regular season since winning the title, and it’s not like the Eagles have a lot of young talent on the roster.

And overall, the Eagles need more than just guys they can check off as hits because they start. They need Pro Bowl-caliber talents. They found one in 2016 with quarterback Carson Wentz in what may be Roseman’s finest moment. But only Goedert and Sanders among the 2017-19 drafts arguably have that potential. Roseman has done a fine job supplementing the poor drafts in free agency and with trades, but having to forfeit picks and big money for someone like cornerback Darius Slay because Jones and Douglas didn’t pan out isn’t a long-term winning formula.

But you’re going to follow my lead. And if I find you out of line, I’m going to kick you in the tail. I’m going to turn around and make sure you’re on point. And when [Wentz] had not one but two guys kicking him in the tail in that 2017 season, we saw the results. We saw him bend, we saw him become flexible, we saw him accepting — sometimes reluctantly, but still accepting — coaching. And that’s an issue. And it’s a major issue. He’s not going to get any better unless he’s willing to turn around and take hard coaching. Really good story last year, Paul Domowitch does a fantastic job. If you remember that story of hard coaching, can Carson accept hard coaching? And again it goes back to what I wrote back in January of 2019. So far, the history doesn’t show it. The history doesn’t show he’s able to accept hard coaching, that he’s able to accept that harsh criticism.”

1) 2020, Eagles at Football Team, 27-17. Yep, the belief here is that the Eagles’ Week 1 loss to the Football Team, arguably the worst franchise in the NFL, was the worst of the Pederson era. When you consider that fans were desperate for a distraction from the pandemic and/or the embarrassment that America has become, followed by a lot of “will they, won’t they” play, the Eagles finally took the field, got out to a 17-0 lead, and then... fart noise.

Jack Driscoll made his NFL debut and did a solid job at RT. There were some bad plays, but he won his share of battles and looks like someone who should be starting in the future. Nate Herbig got his first start, playing RG. He didn’t play well in the first half. He wasn’t terrible, but that’s the best you can say. He settled down in the second half and played better. Still, there was a noticeable difference between him and Driscoll. Jason Peters was disappointing. He looked sloppy. The Eagles look dumb for the whole “he’s our RG” nonsense. They should have given him his money and had Peters getting every snap possible at LT. That also would have given more reps at RG to Herbig and/or Matt Pryor.

For the Eagles, it looks like Lane Johnson is back, so Jack Driscoll will head back to the bench after an encouraging start. That leaves just Jalen Reagor and John Hightower as the only first-year players set to see playing time. Philly had a near-even split of playing time between Hightower (27 snaps), Reagor (40 snaps), JJ Arcega-Whiteside (28 snaps), Greg Ward (30 snaps) and DeSean Jackson (37 snaps). Reagor’s speed was evident immediately, and he could have had even more big plays than he did, with his lone catch going for 55 yards.

Expect more playing time for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside as the season goes on. More? That’s the word from Doug Pederson, who said he’s happy with JJAW’s performance Sunday and plans to expand his role moving forward, even though last year’s second-round pick didn’t have a catch and was never targeted in the Eagles’ 27-17 loss in Washington. “He continues to be a part of the game plan,” Pederson said Friday. “His role will increase I think each and every week. He’s done an outstanding job for us. … He’s always involved, and he’s going to continue to have targets each and every week.”

Broad Street to S. 7th Street). S. 10th Street closed to traffic southbound (Packer Avenue and Hartranft Street a.k.a. “Phillies Way”) S. Darien Street closed to traffic southbound (Packer Ave. to Pattison Ave.) The closures will remain in effect during Eagles home games “until further notice.”

Rose Jr. was killed in 2018 after East Pittsburgh Police Department officer Michael Rosfeld shot the 17-year-old three times in the back after Rose and another person allegedly ran from a car that fit the description of a vehicle allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting. Video of the incident was circulated around social media. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office testified Rose Jr. had gunshot residue on his hands, although it did not mean Rose fired a shot. A gun was also found under the passenger seat of the vehicle where Rose Jr. was sitting. However, Rose Jr. did not have a weapon on him at the time he was shot. The Medical Examiner also ruled Rose’s death a homicide. Rosfeld was later arrested and charged with criminal homicide but was acquitted after a 2019 trial.

Whether it is controversial to point out or not, Micah Kiser was in fact credited with seven missed tackles in Week 1 and that is a lot. There are many linebackers of various experience levels and I’ve rarely heard of seven missed tackles. However, Kiser was playing his first career snaps on defense, with a new defensive coordinator, and doing things (like blitzing four times) that he had never done before and that I had not imagined he’d be doing in Week 1. I do give seven missed tackles the benefit of the doubt. And yet I also get to monitor how the next game goes and against an offense with two of the best receiving tight ends in the league right now and returning its starting running back, Kiser and the other linebackers will be tested against another formidable offense.

The Cowboys are banged up on the offensive line. Starting right tackle La’el Collins began the season on injured reserve, and swing tackle Cam Erving suffered an injury early in the Rams game. This will once again leave UDFA rookie Terence Steele to start out on the edge, and he’ll be going against McKinley which will be a matchup to keep an eye on. And while we are optimistic he’ll be good to go, left tackle Tyron Smith missed practice yesterday with an apparent neck injury. All these things collectively create some added nervousness for Cowboys fans because if the line starts to break down, Prescott’s internal clock is going to speed up in a hurry. And we all know what happened to the Cowboys last time against the Falcons when their backup tackles struggled (eight sacks is what happened!).

Wide receiver Golden Tate was seen running routes during Friday’s practice but is still listed as “limited” in the practice report and is officially questionable for Sunday’s game.

Washington vs Arizona Injury Report: Cole Holcomb OUT, Kendall Fuller Questionable - Hogs Haven
The name that everyone wants to see off this list, and on the field is Kendall Fuller. He was limited at training camp with a knee injury, and also missed last week’s season opener. He was a full participant Wednesday and Thursday, but was downgraded to limited yesterday. He is listed as questionable this week, and Head Coach Ron Rivera said that his presence would mean a lot. He could provide a jolt with the types of coverages they want to run.
