So, this started as a joke I was making after a little quip about the Giants offense, then I started calculating numbers, because that’s what I like to do, and I looked at the results, then I laughed.......then I looked again......then I gave it more thought........then I wanted to cry. Then I figured I’d post it up here for all of you. Go grab a drink, you’ll need it. Might want to grab two.
I can’t give the Giants too much crap, the Vikings don’t have a passing attack right now either. That hasn’t gave them any reason to go run heavy, even though their running attack works pretty well when used. They’re still choosing to pass the ball instead of run it, for the most part. Anyone check out Sunday’s stats? The rushing game was working, they had 18 rushes on the day (yes, only 18 friggin rushes the ENTIRE GAME) for 80 yards, an average of 4.4 YPC, which isn’t 2012 Adrian Peterson numbers, but it’s not too shabby. When Dalvin Cook had the ball, they averaged over 5 YPC, as he had 14 rushes for 63 yards, and he scored the Vikings’ only touchdown.
The passing game, on the other hand, wasn’t so hot. They logged 26 attempts, and finished the game with a total of a whopping 113 yards. That is an average of 4.3 yards per play. Yes, the rushing offense averaged more yards per snap than the passing offense averaged in yards per snap. Now, that 113 yards in passing offense is the gross number, so it isn’t really accurate. When I say gross, I don’t mean gross as in puke-inducing. Well, it’s gross as in puke-inducing too, but that isn’t what I meant by gross. I meant gross as in gross vs. net, gross meaning the whole amount. You know, like your paycheck before taxes? That fake number that you never actually see or receive? The actual number after taxes and deductions is the net amount. That’s the number that matters, because that’s what you actually see go into your bank account. If you want to be accurate in allocating passing production, you want to use the net passing yards. So, to get passing yards, you’d take that big 113 number, then you’d remove the yards lost due to sacks, and you’d also remove the interception return yards. Well, when I take 113, then remove 18 yards for sack yards, and then remove 77 yards for interception returns (59 and 18, I come to a grand total of passing yards that our passing offense registered, aka net yards, of.....are you sitting down?........do you have that drink? Good. Thirty six. Yes, you heard me right, 36. To quote Bob Eucker in Major League, 36 g** d*** yards? 36 yards in 26 plays. Holy s***. That’s 1.38 yards per play from our offense on plays where they don’t hand the ball off to a running back.
Kirk Cousins earned $2,500,000 for Sunday’s game. Someone will want to say that his cap hit is only $21 million, and they’re correct, but it is more accurate to use the $40 million yearly cash figure for 2020, which is his entire year’s earnings. That figure includes this year’s portion of money from his previous contract which was converted to signing bonus (allocated over the life of the contract), plus this year’s portion of the new signing bonus (allocated over the life of the contract), plus his workout bonus. I took that $40 million and divided by 16 to come to the $2,500,000. That means we’re paying our quarterback $1,811,594.20 (rounded down, it’s actually a bit over 20 cents) per yard. I’m going to start drinking now. Where’s the Drano?

After Sunday’s game, Hayden Hurst thanked Dak Prescott for having the courage to share his personal story and speak up about emotional struggles he’s been dealing with recently. In a recent interview, Dak opened up about his struggles with depression, and he also revealed that his brother Jase had died from suicide at the age of 31. Hurst and his mother have a foundation for suicide prevention. This is the good stuff that you see from athletes. It won’t get a lot of attention, but I’ll bet you that these two men will take this and go on to touch many lives and change them for the better. Hats off to both of them.
From NFL.com, more fines were handed down by the NFL for face covering violations by a couple of coaches on Monday. I won’t bore you by re-hashing my opinion about how stupid I think this is, but it is stupid.
From the New York Post, Devonta Foreman turned down higher offers from other teams in order to join the Giants. The Giants recently lost Saquon Barkley for the season. Foreman had previously drawn interest from the Seahawks and Jaguars, but remained on the market until New York called. I find it surprising that he’d turn down more money from Seattle and go to the Giants instead, but maybe he prioritizes racking up yards at this point in his career. He’s in the right place, the Giants are a running team, mainly because they have no passing game. The joke I was making become more than I wanted to put down here, it’s above. You’ve probably already endured reading it, my apologies.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. You’ll want to belly up out here in the parking lot, though. The smell from the last two games has rendered the inside of the building uninhabitable.
