Why a “Boring” 2 Yard Gain is so Important to Nick Chubb, Baker Mayfield, and the Cleveland Browns

Kevin Stefanski has promised to bring an offense to the Cleveland Browns that features an effective running game and marries the pass with the run. Unfortunately in week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, we saw that plan unravel.

The Browns got behind the chains and behind on the scoreboard, which honestly looked too similar to the 2019 offense for comfort. We saw a more effective offense against the Bengals in week 2, a trend I hope continues.

As our offense develops chemistry and irons out the kinks of a new year (with, ya know, a pandemic raging) and a new system, a 2 yard gain should become the worst-case scenario for the Browns’ Outside Zone run play. Getting at least something out of a run and putting our offense in 3rd and manageable is critical. Eliminating negative yardage plays and getting at least modest yardage should be one of the primary goals of our rushing attack.
