49ers sitting as double digit underdogs to the Chargers after Jimmy G injury

The 49ers are going to be underdogs most of the rest of the season.

The San Francisco 49ers lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday to what is believe to be a torn ACL, and that is impacting various gambling odds. Shortly after Sunday’s game, BetDSI announced that if Garoppolo’s knee injury will sideline him for the season, they will drop the 49ers Super Bowl odds from 30/1 to 70/1. Additionally, they believe Garoppolo is worth 5-6 points to the spread, depending on the opponent.

We are already starting to see that impact for Week 4. This past Thursday, the lookahead line had the 49ers as 4.5 point road underdogs to the Los Angeles Chargers. The lookahead line is a look at what the line projects to three days before the official line comes out. The official line is arriving at various sportsbooks, and the 49ers are currently a 10.5 point underdog.

That means there has been a six point swing from where the line was projected to where it landed. The line could change even more, but sportsbooks are going to wait and see what kind of money comes in on which team before adjusting further.

Back in May, early lines for Weeks 1-16 were released after the schedule release. For Weeks 4-16, the 49ers were favorites in eight games. They will likely remain home favorites against the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants, but they will probably be underdogs most of the rest of the season.
