Eagles’ injured reserve list is filling up and only 2 players can come back

The team’s latest addition to IR is safety Rodney McLeod.

We just learned that Philadelphia Eagles safety Rodney McLeod is done for the 2018 season with an MCL tear and has underwent surgery. While this isn’t good news in the short term for Sunday’s game, McLeod was added to IR, which could have longer lasting implications.

Each team is able to bring back two players each season who at some point were designated to the injured reserve list. The Eagles — who have been no strangers to injuries already this season — have quite a few names they might be hoping to get back this year, including tight end Richard Rodgers, and wide receivers Mack Hollins and Mike Wallace.

Rodgers was initially week-to-week before going to IR before the season opener, and just two days later, Hollins was added to IR with a lingering groin injury. The most recent addition was Mike Wallace after he suffered a broken leg against the Buccaneers — the team moved quickly to add him to IR and then fill that roster spot with a much-needed receiver.

So, while we’re a long time from knowing which, if any, of these IR players will actually be healthy enough to return to the field in 2018, it’s something to keep an eye on as the Eagles try and keep their active roster full, while not sidelining a guy they may need later on down the road.

TE Richard Rodgers - Eligible to be activated after Week 8

WR Mike Wallace - Eligible to be activated after Week 10

S Rodney McLeod - Eligible to be activated after Week 11
