More bad news on the Ansah injury front.
The saga of Ezekiel Ansah’s frustrating bouts with injuries just continues to get worse. After a week of practicing in pads, albeit in a limited fashion, Ansah was completely absent from Wednesday practice for Cowboys week.
At this point, we don’t know if Ansah suffered a setback, is dealing with a new injury or was missing from Wednesday’s practice due to an unrelated issue, but smart money is on an injury. Initially, Ansah’s shoulder issue was considered minor, and there were even reports that he may not miss a single game. Things continued to look positive last week, when Ansah strapped on the shoulder pads during practice and appeared to have full mobility with his upper body.
But Ansah was a somewhat surprising inactive on Sunday night and that left the Lions having to play Romeo Okwara for 83 percent of the defensive snaps.
Ansah’s health was the biggest question standing between him and a huge contract extension this offseason, and the Detroit Lions were just not confident enough in it to invest long-term. Instead, the Lions opted to a safer, but expensive, franchise tag.
Unfortunately, Ansah health has remained a big issue. He missed significant time in training camp after tweaking his hamstring in a conditional drill. Then just one half into the regular season, Ansah suffered a shoulder injury and has not seen the field since.
Wednesday’s injury report—out at 4 p.m. ET—will give us more information about Ansah’s condition, but for now, the outlook is bleak.
