John Elway looking for help at cornerback

After a tough road loss on Sunday, Denver Broncos GM John Elway let everyone know he was in the market for a cornerback.

The Denver Broncos defense struggled in the secondary on Sunday in a tough 27-14 road defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. A big part of that was being down to just three active cornerbacks on the roster, with Adam Jones out with a tight hamstring and Tramaine Brock leaving early with a strained groin.

It became clear the Broncos were thin at the position and it led to some break down in coverage assignments against Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense.

After the game, Broncos General Manager John Elway noted that he is indeed looking to improve that position somehow.

“We’re always looking for somebody out there who can come in and help us,’’ Elway told 9News on Sunday. “Especially at corner. Everybody wants one and everybody wants one at the right time, but somebody has to be there and someone has to be willing to make a move. So, we’ll continue to look at that. It looks like Adam will be back healthy next week so that’ll help.’’

Through three games, the Broncos defense is giving up a 69.5% completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks giving up 8.2 yards per pass play, which is seventh worse in the NFL. Even the Kansas City Chiefs defense has a slightly better mark against the pass.

And this late into the season, there isn’t likely any veteran sitting at home watching that could home in and contribute at a high enough level. That leaves a trade, but with whom?
