NFL Picks Against the Spread: Week 3 Games

Here are some suggestions when trying to beat the odds.

Before the third Sunday of the 2018 NFL regular season kicks off, let’s have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for today’s games. (Click here for NFL Week 2 picks without regard to the spread.)

Here are suggestions when trying to beat the odds. You can find all of today’s NFL betting lines and more via SB Nation. My season record so far is 11-20-1. I’m off to a terrible start! Hoping for a rebound. Let’s get to the picks.

NFL Week 3 Games

Buffalo Bills at Minnesota Vikings (-17): Pray for Josh Allen. PICK: Vikings -17

New York Giants at Houston Texans (-6): Deshaun Watson is off to a slow start but I’ll gamble on his upside here. I’d much rather do that than put any faith in this hopeless Giants team that features a bad offensive line blocking for a washed quarterback. PICK: Texans -6

San Francisco 49ers at Kansas City Chiefs (-7): With 10 touchdown passes through his first two games, Pat Mahomes is looking like the real deal. This Chiefs team is very dangerous. They should be even tougher to beat at home. San Francisco is definitely better than they were last year but I don’t think they’re as good as people projected them to be heading into the season. PICK: Chiefs -7

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (-3): These NFC South battles can really go any way. I like the Falcons here since they bounced back last week. The Saints, meanwhile, came very close to dropping to 0-2 despite playing two home games to start the 2018 campaign. I’d recommend avoiding this game but I’m going to go with the home team here. PICK: Falcons -3

Green Bay Packers (-3) at Washington Redskins: Why would anyone want to bet against Aaron Rodgers? I think it’d be very Washington of Washington to win this game after somewhat inexplicably losing at home to the Colts but I’m not going to just count on that. A less than 100% Rodgers is still a force to be reckoned with. PICK: Packers -3

Indianapolis Colts at Philadelphia Eagles (-7): The Eagles are depleted at the skill player positions but guess what? It might not even matter. Carson Wentz is back and he’s going to find a way to lead this team to victory. I think Philadelphia manages to build a comfortable lead towards the end. PICK: Eagles -7

Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins (-3): The Dolphins seem to be better than most expected them to be? They’re at least better than the Raiders, who are definitely not good. Not going to put my money on Jon Gruden. PICK: Dolphins -3

Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens (-5): Joe Flacco and the Ravens fell back to earth in Week 2 after blowing up Buffalo in Week 1. They’re favored over a 2-0 Broncos team, though, because people realize Denver only beat two bad teams in close games. I think the Ravens win but I won’t be surprised if the Broncos can keep it close. PICK: Broncos +5

Cincinnati Bengals at Carolina Panthers (-3): My first impression here is that the Bengals might not be getting enough respect. Cincy has looked good as they’ve reached 2-0. They’re coming off extra rest going into Carolina. PICK: Bengals +3

Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-10.5): The Titans somehow managed to win despite starting Blaine Gabbert last week. Not going to happen twice in a row if he has to start again. Even if it’s Mariota, I just don’t like the Titans on the road against Jacksonville. What gives you any confidence in them? PICK: Jaguars -10.5

Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams (-7): The Chargers are the first real test for the Rams this season. Screw it, I’m going to say they upset media darling Sean McVay’s Rams. Or they’ll at least find a way to make the game close. PICK: Chargers +7

Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks (-1.5): Cowboys fans gave up on the season after Week 1 but now they’re preparing for Dallas to go to the Super Bowl after the Cowboys beat a bad Giants team. Cowboys fans can go back to panicking after losing to a Seahawks team that doesn’t look very good overall but will bounce back in their home opener. Hard for road teams to win in Seattle. PICK: Seahawks -1.5

Chicago Bears (-5.5) at Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals are going exactly nowhere with Sam Bradford as their starter. It’s a free win for the opponent. Congrats to the Bears. PICK: Bears -5.5

New England Patriots (-7) at Detroit Lions: The Pats are really good at bouncing back after losses. They should manage to do so against a Lions team that has not been very impressive to this point. PICK: Patriots -7

Pittsburgh Steelers (-1.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs still aren’t getting respect despite putting up a bunch of points through their first two games. Ben Roethlisberger isn’t known for playing great on the road and the Steelers are very much in disarray. I’ll take the red hot Bucs getting points at home. PICK: Buccaneers +1.5
