NFL Week 4 Power Rankings: Let’s check in on the 1st place Bears

We take a peek around the internet to see how all the NFL Power Rankers are ranking the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears have won two games in a row after their heartbreaking loss to the Green Bay Packers on kickoff weekend. Imagine if the Bears could have just made one more play during that game. The offense is still trying to get things figured out, but the defense is among the league leaders in a number of statistical categories. At some point Matt Nagy’s offense will click, but in the meantime they are doing enough to stay in games.

Let’s take a look at where a few football analysts are ranking the 2-1, NFC North leading Chicago Bears in their week 4 Power Rankings.

SB Nation moved the Bears up three spots to 14th, and SB Nation’s Bleeding Green Nation moved the Bears up two to 13th saying, “I go back to what I said last week: I’m buying Chicago’s defense but I’m selling Mitchell Trubisky. He hasn’t been good.”

Trubisky is leaving some plays out on the field, and in my opinion, he’s still thinking too much. Familiarity with his offense and his teammates will get better in time, and while they work on that keep in mind that it’s still a big difference from what we saw last year.

The Bears actually dropped three spots, to 17th, according to NFL.com.

Like Baltimore, Chicago drops despite prevailing in Week 3. And like those Ravens, the Bears have an air game that is mostly stuck at the gate -- actually, it’s worse than that. The similarly offensively-challenged Cardinals did everything they possibly could to let the Bears hang around and win Sunday, which is precisely what happened. The new NFC North terror, Khalil Mack, was at it again. Mitch Trubisky was more like north of terrible. He isn’t losing games, but he isn’t exactly helping this otherwise-ready-for-prime-time team win, either. Put another way: 21-on-21, the Bears are legit. It’s that 22nd guy. Matt Nagy must create more opportunities to play to his young quarterback’s strengths.

ESPN gave their rankings and listed a “fatal flaw” for each team.

18. Chicago Bears
Record: 2-1
Week 3 ranking: 23

While the Bears rank second in plays per drive at 6.2, they are 29th in touchdowns per drive at 12.5 percent. Part of that reason: They rank 27th in red zone efficiency TD. -- Masi

Here’s how the Sporting News has it.

16. Chicago Bears 2-1 (last week: 18)

The Khalil Mack trade is paying huge dividends, especially with Mitchell Trubisky struggling to move the ball consistently.

The USA Today has it like this.

18. Bears (15): Khalil Mack among four players on pace to collect 21½ sacks this season. Meanwhile, Raiders on pace to collect league-low 16 collectively.

Yahoo Sports has the Bears ranked like this.

17. Chicago Bears (2-1, LW: 18)

I want to believe in Mitchell Trubisky. But he is still missing way too many easy passes. Maybe he always will. The offensive struggles are why the Bears aren’t higher on this list. The defense is really good, however.
