Pete Carroll won’t confirm if Earl Thomas will play vs. Dallas

I guess you could call the Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys game “The Earl Thomas Bowl.” We know that the Cowboys were essentially the leading team when negotiating failed trade talks to land the All-Pro safety, and really this can all be traced back to the famous “come get me” moment on Christmas Eve 2017 in Arlington.

Thomas’ contract holdout is over, he’s been his usual excellent self through two games, but with the Cowboys game looming, there’s suddenly uncertainty over whether or not he’ll play this Sunday.

On Friday, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll noted that Thomas did not participate in practice due to an unspecified personal issue. Carroll didn’t go into details over what happened, and when asked about Thomas’ status for the Cowboys game, he said “we’ll see how he’s doing. Make sure he’s OK.”

Now if you’re freaking out that the Seahawks... traded Earl Thomas on Friday to their next opponent, calm down. Per NFL.com’s Steve Wyche, “a team official said that Thomas had not been traded and reiterated Carroll’s statement that Thomas was dealing with a personal issue.” Wyche also noted that he spoke to two unidentified Seahawks players, neither of whom “would not go into what happened Friday with Thomas but both said that they expected him to play against the Cowboys.”

Thomas did physically attend practice in his jersey, wearing a visor but not actually doing any drills or on-field work.

Your guess is as good as mine as far as what’s going on. Hopefully Thomas’ personal matter is taken care of accordingly. For now, it’s a wait-and-see as far as confirmation that ETIII will be in the starting lineup for Seattle in a must-win game against Dallas.
