The Miami Dolphins travel to Houston Thursday night to take on the Houston Texans. The Dolphins started out the season hot with a 3-0 record following the return of starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The magic didn’t last long, however, as Tannehill would go down in Week 5 with a shoulder injury that still has him sidelined through this week’s matchup. The Dolphins now find themselves sitting at 4-3 coming off a loss to the Lions on Sunday in Miami. To add salt to the wound, the Dolphins lost two of their top three receivers in Albert Wilson and Kenny Stills to injury against the Lions, and neither will play against the Texans.
Houston is on the complete opposite track: after stumbling to an 0-3 start, Houston has found their groove and in what seems like the blink of an eye turned things around to a 4-3 record entering this game.
The commonality between these two teams is quarterback Brock Osweiler. Osweiler got paid by the Texans and was expected to fix their everlasting problem at quarterback. After that experiment turned out to be a trainwreck, however, the Texans traded a 2nd-round pick to Cleveland to take Osweiler, who was eventually cut from the Browns’ roster. Osweiler has exceeded expectations as the Dolphins’ backup now that he is reunited with Dolphins head coach Adam Gase, who was Osweiler’s offensive coordinator during his rise in Denver.
