The Miami Dolphins have announced the team has waived safety Maurice Smith and defensive tackle Jamiyus Pittman. The team did not disclose corresponding roster moves to fill the two open spots. Miami could be looking to return offensive lineman Jake Brendel and linebacker Mike Hull from the injured reserve list this week.
Smith has appeared in five games for the Dolphins this year, primarily on special teams, along with six games last year. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Miami in 2017 and started the 2018 season on the team’s practice squad.
Pittman was signed as an undrafted free agent this year, starting the season on the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster earlier this month, appearing in three games and recording one tackle.
The Dolphins are preparing to face the New York Jets this upcoming weekend after having last week’s Thursday Night Football game, a game they lost to the Houston Texans to fall to 4-4 on the year.
