Both the Falcons and Giants are going to try to start climbing out of their respective divisional basements on Monday Night Football.
On Monday night, after the dust has cleared in Week 7 for the rest of the NFL, Atlanta’s going to try to win another game. That’s all that the Falcons can do right now, and thankfully, taking it one game at a time is one thing this franchise has been really good at under Dan Quinn.
A win here doesn’t save the season—the Giants are 1-5, and the Falcons will still be under .500—but it will keep things on track. Atlanta’s just trying to tread water until they get healthier and get star linebacker Deion Jones back, and while they’ve not done a great job of it to this point, Week 6 showed what can happen if the defense can manage to nab a couple of turnovers and the offense stays clicking. They win, however narrowly.
New York is a bad football team, but they’re not going to simply roll over. They have the weapons on offense to make Atlanta’s life miserable if Eli Manning can simply not fumble all over himself, and they have a playmaking safety and enough pieces to put Matt Ryan on his back a few times in this one. Given the way Atlanta has played of late, that might be enough to win, so the Falcons will have to show something more to walk away with a W.
Fortunately for Atlanta, they’re still home, still have the weapons to make noise through the air even if Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu can’t suit up, and are making baby steps on defense as they phase in Foye Oluokun and hopefully welcome back Grady Jarrett. Hopefully it’s enough that we get to “enjoy” a bye week without worrying about what’s coming next.
Here’s what you’ll need to know to watch the game.
