FanPulse: Bears fans think they’ll beat the Patriots

What do you think?

Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse — a survey of fans across the NFL, powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Patriotsfans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.

The New England Patriots are favorites to beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday by roughly a field goal, but don’t tell that to Bears fans. According to our FanPulse survey, Bears fans think that Chicago will win by an average of 2 points. I wasn’t expecting them to be so confident after losing to Brock Osweiler and the Miami Dolphins (and I’m speaking from experience of having watching the Patriots lose to Osweiler; it does serious damage to your confidence).

Patriots fans are equally enthusiastic in the opposite direction, projecting a New England victory by an average of 9 points. When you split the difference between the two teams, you have an average Patriots victory of 3.5 points- exactly the spread offered by Vegas.

Can the Bears beat the Patriots? Absolutely. They have an incredible defense- Osweiler notwithstanding- and an offense that can do just enough to win the game. They’re led by head coach Matt Nagy, who used to be the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs and will have watched how his former team sliced and diced the Patriots defense in the second half. Victory for the Patriots is far from certain.

But on the other hand, Brock Osweiler torched the Bears secondary and Frank Gore used his thousand-year-old legs to churn out 100 yards against the run defense. Tom Brady and Sony Michel should be able to outperform the Dolphins offense, right?

What’s your prediction for the game?
